The Story of the Mass Academy Rkhive

The 2020-2021 school year was unprecendented for Mass Academy.

With the COVID-19 pandemic limiting in-person learning, the year was overcome with Zoom calls. Much of the collaborative, interactive Mass Academy connectivity was lost due to these tremendous challenges: a disconnect between new students and the school’s history and culture, maintenance of mental health, demotivation, and a lack of socialization.

In response to this, Kazuya Erdos, Karina Sargent, and Justin Wang of the Mass Academy Class of '22 created Rkhive, aiming to set in place a repository of Mass Academy history, including information about past students and events, to serve as a resource for past, present, and future students to connect with and learn more about the school.

Rkhive is an interactive yearbook from the Class of 2021 onwards, with the ability to include information about students at Mass Academy. Students input data through a Google form, which allows editing of information after initial publishing. The app contains an interactive alumni page, which contains updatable alumni profiles from every student with college and career information, opportunities or advice to current students, and contact information.

Taken together, these features create a holistic illustration of students at Mass Academy, establishing a valuable resource for future students, and develop a closer sense of connectivity within the Mass Academy community.
